Warning: Don't Use Laxatives For Constipation Treatments
There are a number of different constipation treatments out there, but how do you find one that you can use without worrying about the list of side effects? Are you aware of the damage you could be doing to your intestinal tract with laxatives and drugs? While you might find relief through one of these methods, it comes at a price that you probably will not want to pay later on. It would be better to use a natural cure for constipation.
Medically speaking, constipation is described as fewer than three bowel movements per week. Severe constipation is less than one. If you decide to go with laxatives to help with constipation, you are putting yourself in danger of forming a habit. There are different types of laxatives, but the end result of all of them is to allow you to excrete waste that has built up.
Stimulants are designed to force contractions in the intestines. Lubricants make it easier for the stool to move through your colon. Stool softeners make the stool moister. Fiber supplements give you a big boost of fiber. Osmotics encourage fluids to move through the colon. Saline laxatives absorb water into the colon to allow the stool to pass more easily. In all of these cases, the laxatives are not working with your body, but putting more pressure on it and forcing it to behave unnaturally.
In addition, there are side effects from those kinds of constipation treatments. Besides the aforementioned habit that can be formed, you can experience stomach cramps, fatigue, bloating, etc. in the short term. They can also cause a problem if you are trying to take other medicines, by sometimes preventing your body from absorbing other medications or nutrients. Whenever possible, you should avoid using any drugs or laxatives as constipation treatments. If you treat them as a last resort, it is okay to use them occasionally.
But even so, wouldn’t you rather not get constipated in the first place? If you get constipated frequently, the long-term damage of laxatives is too serious to allow you to use them as a means of keeping your constipation in check. If you do, you might find that your body is unable to have a bowel movement without them, and it might take months before your bowel movements are normal again. Even after all of this, you still might have constipation problems because you didn’t fix why you were getting constipated in the first place.
Long-term symptoms include damage to the muscular function of your bowels, tolerance to the laxatives until even they no longer work, lack of absorption of key nutrients, kidney stones or kidney failure, etc. If you don’t like the sound of these symptoms, perhaps using laxatives as constipation treatments isn’t the best solution, especially if you are experiencing chronic constipation. You would do much better for yourself if you looked into natural remedy. It’s not too late to use natural cures as the right kind of constipation treatments, so you can get your regularity back without drugs.
